M62 closure RECAP: Major UK motorway shuts after horror multi-vehicle crash

Three lanes of the M62 were shut this evening following a crash involving multiple vehicles. Motorists faced delays of 90 minutes after the collision[1] between Junction 11 at Birchwood and Junction 12, where it meets the M60 at Eccles Interchange. National Highways has confirmed the lines have since reopened.

Delays of 90 minutes expected

There are currently delays of 90 minutes on the motorway due to the incident, according to National Highways.

They say normal traffic conditions can be expected at around 7.30pm tonight, on what is already a busy stretch of road for commuters heading to Manchester during rush hour.

In a post on X, National Highways confirmed officers are at the scene in Greater Manchester. Three of the four lanes of the motorway were closed, leading to delays, the Manchester Evening News[6] reported.
