M6 traffic RECAP: Huge stretch of major motorway closed after horror crash

A stretch of the M6 was closed for a number of hours following a crash last night. Emergency services rushed to the scene on the M6 southbound in Lancashire. The road was closed between junction 33 for Lancaster South/Garstang and junction 32 for the M55 Broughton Interchange.

Lancashire Police confirmed the road was reopened at around 11.15pm and did not confirm any reports of injuries.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson took to Facebook to share an update on their investigation. They said: "We let you know earlier that the M6 from junctions 33-32 Southbound had closed due to a road traffic collision. "We can now let you know that the motorway is open for you to travel.

Thank you again for your patience and drive safely on your onward journeys."

Lancashire Police issue statement

Lancashire Police have issued the following statement: "Good evening, we want to update you and let you know that the M6 from junctions 33-32 Southbound is currently closed due to a road traffic collision. "We anticipate that the motorway will be closed for a short amount of time, whilst we make sure the road is safe. In the meantime, we'd recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination.

"We'll keep tabs on what's happening and we'll update you here once the motorway is open.
