M4 re-opens after emergency repairs see drivers face long traffic queues

There was queuing traffic on the M4 after emergency roadworks shut two lanes. Part of the M4 eastbound section from junction 38 A48 (Margam) to junction 37 A4229 (Pyle / Porthcawl) was closed for the work. The lane closures caused tailback traffic along the route with an average speed of 15mph at points.

Traffic Wales initially warned drivers that the M4 eastbound junction 38 Margam to junction 37 Pyle would be closed overnight from 8pm on Monday evening, December 29, to 6am on Tuesday for emergency work to take place, but all lanes have since re-opened earlier than expected.
