M4 left in chaos with 90 minute delays after multi-vehicle crash
The M4 was in chaos on Wednesday evening after a multi-vehicle crash brought the motorway to a complete standstill near Cardiff. South Wales Police worked at the scene alongside Traffic Wales to recover the vehicles. At 5.30pm, the motorway was closed eastbound from J33 to J32, and drivers were warned of heavy traffic affecting everyone travelling from Cardiff towards Newport.
Some drivers said they were stuck at standstill for nearly two hours. At 6pm, an update from traffic monitoring system Inrix said: "Severe delays and one lane closed due to multi-vehicle accident and debris on road on M4 Eastbound from J33 A4232 (Cardiff West And Services) to J32 A470 Northern Avenue (Coryton Interchange). "Congestion to J34 (Miskin), with traffic also slow on the opposite side due to onlookers.
The A4232 is also queueing on approach."
All lanes have since re-opened and traffic has returned to normal.
