M1 Tamnamore roundabout crash recap after lorry flips on its side

A major roundabout in Northern Ireland was closed for several hours on Wednesday December 10 after a lorry flipped over[1] on an approach road. The incident took place on the Tamnamore Roundabout on the M1 which sits on the outskirts of Tamnammore/Coalisland in Co Tyrone[2] and just before Dungannon. Footage from Trafficwatch showed a red shipping container and yellow cab of the truck flipped over on a bridge over the M1 with no visible traffic on the motorway.

In an update on X, Trafficwatch said: "Overturned articulated lorry on M1 J1 Tamnamore Roundabout impacting circulation round the roundabout. The incident is between the Westbound off-slip and the Eastbound on-slip." Crews from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service were attendance.

The adjoining Park and Ride had been closed and passengers using Translink leaving Belfast Grand Central wereurged to check travel arrangements. A statement from the PSNI tonight said: "Police and other emergency services are at the scene of a road traffic collision in the Tamnamore Road area of Dungannon following a report of an overturned lorry. "Road users are advised to exercise caution, and diversions are in place.

Officers are at the scene directing traffic flow."

The scene was cleared at around 11pm on Wednesday night after two cranes and clear-up crews worked tirelessly to reopen the roundabout.
