Live: M5 traffic halted near Exeter as vehicle crashes into barrier

A stretch of the M5 southbound in Devon was brought to a standstill after a crash[1]. The incident happened this morning (Tuesday, December 23) between J28 (Cullompton[2]) and J29 (Exeter[3]) and reportedly involved a vehicle colliding into the central barrier of the motorway. National Highways posted on X at 6.52am: "Traffic has been STOPPED on the #M5 southbound in #Devon between J28 (#Cullompton) and J29 (#Exeter) due to a collision involving a vehicle which has struck the central reservation."

It shared an update shortly before 7.30am advising that the incident had cleared and all lanes had reopened, but "long delays remain in the area".
