Three badly injured in multi-vehicle M40 crash as police appeal for witnesses

Four people were taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on a Midland motorway.

The crash took place on the M40, which links Birmingham[1] and London, between junctions 12, for Gaydon, and 13, for Leamington Spa and Warwick, on Tuesday night, November 4.

Emergency services were called at around 7.45pm to a report the driver of a vehicle transporter had collided with the central reservation.

A number of other vehicles, including a van and multiple cars, were involved in the crash. Six people were injured, three seriously, with four taken to hospital.

West Midlands Ambulance Service[3] said it received a 999 call at 7.42pm to the M40 in Chesterton and Kingston and sent five ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Warwickshire[4] and Northamptonshire critical care car to the scene.

A spokeswoman for the service said: "On arrival, crews found six patients.

"A man and a woman were treated for serious injuries, and both were conveyed under emergency driving conditions to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

"A second man was treated for potentially serious injuries, and a third man was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being conveyed to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

"Two further people did not wish to be assessed."

The M40 was closed between junctions 11, for Banbury, and 15, for Warwick, but reopened on Wednesday.

Warwickshire Police appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

The force said: "We're appealing for witnesses or information following a multi-vehicle collision on the M40.

"Emergency services were called at around 7.45pm to a report the driver of a vehicle transporter had collided with the central reservation between J12 and J13.

"A number of other vehicles were subsequently involved in the collision. Several people were taken to hospital, their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"Significant road closures were in place while emergency services were in attendance.

All carriageways have now reopened.

"If anyone witnessed the collision or has any dashcam footage, please call 101 quoting incident number 380 of November 4, 2025."
