Despite only containing a snippet of the M60 and its own small motorway in the M67, Tameside[1] is home to the third-highest total of speed cameras in Greater Manchester.

The borough's total of 28 is only behind Stockport[2], on 30, and Manchester, with 57.

More than 250 traffic cameras have been installed in Greater Manchester, and there are hundreds more 'mobile locations' where the police can enforce the limits temporarily.

Tameside, where an eastern leg of the M60[4] runs, connecting up with the M67 to the Peak District, does however have a long stretch of arterial road, the A57.

That could explain why it has the number of speed cameras it does -- some of which also monitor red traffic lights.

Now, we've used data from Greater Manchester's 10 councils to compile a list of every speed camera in the city-region.

We've added to that list of cameras from early 2024 with more recent announcements, and from database Speeding Fine Calculator[5].

We then cross-referenced camera locations with Google Streetview images to confirm they were still there in 2025.

The table below gives a complete list of 262 speed, average speed, red light, and yellow box cameras, and the speed limit in force where appropriate.

It's worth checking it before your next new journey, as being caught out by a camera will lead to a GBP100 fine and three penalty points on your driving licence as a minimum.

However, punishments can be harsher for more egregious offences.

If a driver accrues 12 penalty points on their licence within three years, they can be disqualified from driving.

The limit is lower for new drivers, who can be disqualified for attaining six points in their first two years behind the wheel.
