Storm Claudia LIVE updates as flood warning issued and trees down in Greater Manchester

A flood warning has been issued in Greater Manchester after a day of heavy rain and fierce gusty winds[1] as Storm Claudia[2] wreaks havoc across the country. The Environment Agency issued the warning for the River Mersey on Friday night, with flooding expected from 11pm.[3] The storm has been named by the Spanish meteorological service, but its impact has been felt across much of England and Wales today (November 14).

A fallen tree has left trams suspended on the Metrolink line between Bury and Whitefield, with repairs set to continue throughout the weekend. In Oldham, firefighters cordoned off part of a shopping centre after the roof became damaged. The roof at the town's bus station was also damaged on Friday night.[4] Join our Traffic and Travel WhatsApp group HERE[5]

As of Friday evening two flood alerts had also been issued for the region; one covering the River Mersey Uplands catchment including Hyde, Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Stalybridge and Glossop, and the other the Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston.. Four weather warnings have been issued by the UK's Met Office[6] for today, including two amber alerts. Some train companies, including Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express, have cancelled services later today due to the weather forecast - with passengers urged to 'avoid travelling' where possible[7].
