Rear glasses will disappear — New Grand Tourer chooses speed over the view
This brand new vehicle has embraced speed over the view. Each year, we are seeing increasingly more advanced vehicles being put out on the road, defying the boundaries of what was thought possible in automobile technology innovation. From advanced alternative engine technologies to fully automated driving vehicles, the passenger vehicle continues to inspire and amaze, with engines not only becoming increasingly more sustainable, but also faster.
Advancing the capabilities of passenger vehicle engines
The potential of what the passenger vehicle is capable of achieving knows no boundaries. With the past decade bringing increasingly advanced alternative engine solutions to the road, the electric engine in particular has emerged as the standard for what automobile companies need to be striving for.
This is not only in order to reduce overall carbon emissions and to provide solutions towards solving the world's energy crisis, but the electric engine has become a representation of how advanced and innovative a company's engineering team is. Not just limited to the everyday passenger vehicle world, we are also starting to see more 'super' electric vehicles on the road. With these luxury and bespoke automobile developers producing elite vehicles that make use of electric engine technology, we really get to see what an electric engine is capable of when put to the test.
While it may seem unfathomable that a luxury sports car would not make use of the infamous internal combustion engine, sports car developers are not deaf to the demands of consumers, noting that in order to remain relevant, they need to demonstrate significantly advanced electric engine solutions that even rival their internal combustion engine models. In keeping with the times, luxury sports car vehicle developer Lamborghini recently released their Fenomeno, the latest hybrid innovation from the developer. With a top speed of 217mph, only 29 of these vehicles are expected to be produced, making them a limited collectible item for their most elite client base. [1]
These vehicle opts for speed over views
Continuing with the increased presence of luxury electric vehicles on the road, the Polestar 5 has finally made its debut by the Swedish electric automobile developer, five years after its concept was first revealed.
However, one of the most unique features of the new vehicle is that it has eliminated a rear window and instead opted for a Kamm-style tail. This decision reflects the advanced capabilities of the vehicle and its design, as in order to do this, the vehicle must rely on a high-definition digital rearview mirror to show the driver what's behind them. The vehicle boasts an impressive output, reaching a top electronic speed of 250km/h, all powered by a 112 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
Other features of the vehicle include:
- 738 horsepower.
- 812 Nm of torque.
- 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
- WLTP range of up to 670 km
- Both standard and Performance Polestar 5s support DC fast charging at up to 350 kW.
Luxury meets electric for engines of the future
The new Polestar is an example of the continued trend for luxury and performance vehicles to exhibit an electric engine in order to represent the future of the automobile world and engineering capabilities. Adding to these vehicles, Aston Martin recently debuted its very first hybrid sports car, with the vehicle reportedly reaching top speeds of 217mph. Similar to Lamborghini's focus on exclusivity, Aston Martin will only be developing 999 of these hybrid vehicles.
As of now, only two of these vehicles have been produced, with the other 997 already having a buyer lined up for each one.
The vehicles have a starting price point of £1 million.
With the increased presence of limited luxury electric vehicles on the road, it may very well contribute to influencing consumer decisions to purchase an electric vehicle in order to increase social status.
