M4 lanes reopens after hay lorry blaze near Slough

Two lanes along a stretch of the M4 in Berkshire have reopened after a hay lorry fire.

The HGV caught alight on the westbound carriageway between junction 6 for Slough and junction 8/9 for Maidenhead on Thursday at about 16:00 GMT.

Firefighters worked through the evening to put out the blaze and dampen down the load to stop it flaring up.

Two grab lorries were also used to remove and break up hay bales from the trailer to stop the flames spreading.

The motorway was closed overnight, with two lanes later reopening at about 06:30.

National Highways said the remaining two lanes were closed for emergency barrier repairs.
