Live: ‘Serious’ M4 crash in Wiltshire causing 90-minute delays

A stretch of the M4 was closed on one side in Wiltshire due to a "multi-vehicle" crash this evening (Wednesday, November 19). Authorities said the collision was "serious" and emergency services attended. The motorway was shut eastbound between Chippenham and West Swindon following the collision, according to traffic-monitoring service Inrix, but all lanes have since reopened.

It reported: "M4 Eastbound closed, severe delays due to multi-vehicle accident from J17 A350 (Chippenham) to J16 A3102 Swindon Road (Swindon West)." By 8pm there were 90-minute delays on the motorway, but half an hour later National Highways confirmed: "The vehicles involved in the earlier collision on the #M4 east, J17 (#Chippenham) - J16 (#Swindon) have now been recovered from the scene. All lanes have been reopened with residual delays of up to 30 minutes on the approach."

It is not yet known if anyone was injured.
