Greater Manchester traffic chaos amid long queues on FOUR motorways after two breakdowns

Drivers faced a morning of misery on Greater Manchester's motorways with heavy traffic across the region. Two breakdowns led to long delays on the M60 and M62 this morning (November 12). A lane closure was in place on the M60 anticlockwise between junctions 11 at Eccles and 10 at the Trafford Centre.

All lanes have now reopened, but the incident led to huge M60 queues stretching back all the way to junction 18 at Simister Island. Join our Traffic and Travel WhatsApp group HERE[1] The queues continued onto the M62 westbound, towards junction 19 at Heywood, while there were 25-minute delays on the M61 southbound approaching the M60.

Separately, traffic was also slow on the M60 clockwise between junction 23 at Ashton-under-Lyne and junction four at the M56, past Stockport. Meanwhile, a second breakdown led to two lanes being closed on the M62 eastbound between junctions 11 at Birchwood and 12 at the M60 Eccles Interchange. Queues were tailing back beyond junction 10 for the M6 at Croft, while there were delays on the M6 southbound approaching junction 21A for the M62.

Those incidents have since cleared. Drivers also faced delays in Ashton-under-Lyne as Stamford Street East is closed near Park Parade[2], while a signalling issue led to huge disruption at Bolton railway station, with several trains cancelled[3]. This is a live event.
