Surrey M25 reopens after overturned lorry causes seven hours of delays

The M25 has reopened nearly seven hours after an overturned lorry closed the anti-clockwise carriageway. At around 10.30am on Thursday (October 30) a collision resulted in a lorry coming to rest on its side in the Cobham area. This meant traffic could not pass on the motorway[1] between junction 10 for Wisley[2] and 9 for Leatherhead.[3] Drivers were directed down a diversion route.

Emergency services including the Surrey ambulance service attended and two people were treated at the scene. Over several hours, a 'complex recovery' took place as cranes worked to turn the lorry upright. The motorway reopened shortly before 6pm that night, although long delays remained.
