Slip road shut for repairs overnight after lorry crash
A slip road has been closed for repairs after an overturned lorry caused an oil spill. Drivers are again facing delays as workers shut the London-bound route heading from the A289 Wainscott Bypass onto the A2 between Medway and Gravesend.
At around 9.20am, the A289 Hasted Road, near Higham[1], was blocked due to the incident. It resulted in a large oil spill[2] and police were sent to the scene.
No injuries were reported. By around 12pm, the road was reopened, but it has since shut again - this time for repairs. KCC Highways has warned drivers that the closure will be in place until tomorrow.
They say there is currently queuing traffic stretching to the Four Elms Roundabout but drivers have warned the congestion is impacting the Medway City Estate and the Medway Tunnel. A spokesman said: "The slip onto the A2 London-bound from the A289 Wainscott Bypass is closed due to an RTC. "The closure is expected to be in place until 7th October as carriageway repair works are necessary before the road re-opens."
It is not yet known when the route will be open again.
