Roads near Carlisle station shut overnight for refurbishment

A major shopping street outside a railway station is to close for a week to allow refurbishment works to take place.

Carlisle's Botchergate junction, the Crescent, English Street and Court Brow will shut from 20:00 to 06:00 BST from Monday to Friday.

The works include resurfacing, new cycle lane installation, upgraded traffic signals and repainted road markings.

It forms part of the ?27m Carlisle Station Gateway project[1], where Court Square will be pedestrianised and Lawson's Monument will be moved.

Court Square will be pedestrianised and Lawson's Monument will be moved as part of the scheme.

The space is the main point of arrival for visitors to the city, but the current layout and appearance of Court Square is dominated by vehicles, making the space problematic for pedestrians, a report said.
