Regional: M60 crash: Man in his 60s dies after horror collision
Officers were called to reports of a collision between three cars and a motorbike on the clockwise carriageway of the M60, between junctions 15, M61, and 16, Kearsley, at around 6.15pm on Sunday (October 12). In an update on Monday morning (October 13), Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed the rider of the motorbike, the man in his 60s, died after suffering fatal injuries. Two of the three drivers have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, the force also said.
The GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit is now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage to contact them. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may dashcam footage from the area in the moments leading up to the crash and can be contacted on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 2294-12/10/2025. Information can also be shared using the 'report' tool or LiveChat function on the GMP website.
Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. National Highways shared a warning of the crash with drivers at around 6.35pm, stating traffic was being held clockwise on the M60. A short time later, it announced the motorway had been closed in both directions and that GMP was investigating at the scene.
It also said the North West Ambulance Service had attended. At around 8.15pm, traffic caught up in the closure began to be released by emergency services from the rear of the queue as investigation work got underway. Images from the scene showed dozens of cars stopped in traffic, and traffic reports showed queues stretching as far back as Prestwich, Farnworth and Worsley.
The motorway was closed from Junction 14 to Junction 16 clockwise and Junction 16 to Junction 15 anticlockwise.
The carriageway was closed for several hours but reopened on Monday morning.
