Man sentenced for assaulting HGV driver
A man who climbed up the side of an HGV cab and attacked a driver in his 70s has been sentenced for common assault by beating. Cohen Benn, 37, was ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work following a hearing at Reading Magistrates' Court. He was also told to pay GBP150 in victim compensation and GBP85 in court costs after an investigation by Thames Valley Police.
The attack happened on Bath Road in Slough on 8 October 2024, when Benn confronted the lorry driver before driving off in his car. The driver suffered cuts to his face. Benn later attended a voluntary interview with police before being charged with the offence on 25 March.
Investigating officer PC Ryan Dawe said: "This incident gathered a lot of attention from the public at the time. "I am thankful to the victim and witnesses that have come forward to provide their support to the investigation and helped bring about the conviction, without which it could not have been achieved. "I know that the incident brought a lot of distress to the victim and concern to the community.
I hope that the victim can now begin to move on from this, and that this sentence shows to local residents of Slough, and beyond, that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and there is no place for it."
