Major A-road closed after crash involving car and lorry

A main road is reportedly closed[1] following a 'serious' collision involving a car and a lorry[2], with 'severe' delays expected in the area. The A1 Great North Road southbound is closed between Grantham and Little Ponton[3], with images from the scene showing a fire engine and an air ambulance in attendance. The incident was first reported by Inrix at around 3pm on Sunday (October 5), which says congestion is building to the Harlaxton/Melton Mowbray turn off.
A spokesperson for the traffic monitoring service said: "The A1 Great North Road southbound, from B1174 to B6403, is blocked. "Congestion is building to just after the Harlaxton/Melton Mowbray turn off. This is due to a serious accident involving a car and a lorry.
Severe delays are expected in the area." A statement from National Highways East Midlands went on to confirm that the road is now "closed" rather than "blocked". Traffic maps provided by Google[4] show a long line of congestion along the route, as well as further congestion on the A1 between the A52 and A607 turn offs. An air ambulance has also been spotted nearby.
