M61 southbound brought to a standstill due to incidents

Drivers heading southbound on the M61 between J4 and J5 near Farnworth faced heavy congestion and severe delays.[1] Greater Manchester Police (GMP) would confirm that they had responded to a concern for welfare incident at around 1pm. A spokesperson said: "Around 1pm, we responded to reports of a concern for welfare.

A woman was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment." However, delays remained and it appeared that traffic[2] was still at a complete standstill.

National Highways said that a car had broken down on the motorway between J4 and J3 at around 1.50pm.

They added that the Audi A3 was removed by GMP and everything was cleared at 2.15pm.

By half past, traffic had returned to normal and drivers no longer faced delays.
