Lorry smashes into bridge near motorway

A main A-road leading to the M4 was shut in both directions this morning (Friday) after a lorry crashed into a bridge. Traffic monitoring site, Inrix, reported at 7.20am: "A429 in both directions closed, slow traffic due to bridge struck by vehicle between the Hullavington turn off (Lower Stanton St Quintin) and Barton Way (Corston)." Maps showed that traffic was queueing along the A429 for around half a mile on the approach to the roundabout near the MMR Raceway and M4 Karting.

The junction sits just two miles north of the M4 J17 for Chippenham. Inrix later reported that traffic had cleared. There was another crash on a nearby road just a few miles south of the M4 which was also left closed in both directions this morning due to an overturned lorry. You can read more about that here[1].
