Major M5 traffic problems after vehicle overturns

A vehicle overturned on the M5 near Bristol, causing a huge backlog of traffic on the motorway this afternoon, Friday, October 17. One lane was closed southbound at Portishead after a vehicle overturned and careered off the motorway. National Highways said there were delays of around 40 minutes in the area.

Traffic monitoring site, Inrix reported: "Long delays and one lane closed due to overturned vehicle on M5 Southbound from J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead) to J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon). "Congestion to M5 J17 (Cribbs Causeway)." Drivers faced delays for hours as queues formed following the incident which had cleared by around 6.30pm.
