81 drivers reported for skipping M60 traffic during accident

A total of 81 drivers have been reported offences after they tried to skip the queue while officers were closing the road. Greater Manchester Police (GMP)[1] said that this prevented further emergency service vehicles from reaching the scene of the accident between J17 and J16. They've said these drivers[2] can expect to receive a letter in the post.
A spokesperson for GMP said: "Last week GMP Traffic were dealing with a RTC on the M60 17-16. "Whilst officers implemented a closure of the carriageway numerous drivers decided to drive down the hard shoulder to skip the queue of traffic which prevented further emergency service vehicles attending the scene. In August, drivers who ignored the red X on the M6 also received letters following a crash.
Despite repeated warnings not to ignore the red X sign on motorways, Lancashire Police said that a number of drivers drove through the lane, despite it being clearly marked by the letter.
