Woman fighting for her life after A500 smash between lorry and car

A second woman was also injured

A woman is fighting for her life following a smash between a lorry and car on the A500.[1] Emergency services - including the air ambulance - were sent to the D-road at the junction with Alsager Road near Audley this afternoon (September 18).

Paramedics treated one woman for 'critical injuries' before she was rushed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. A second woman sustained minor injuries in the collision, which happened shortly after 12noon today (September 18).

A West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on the A500 near Audley at 12.14pm. Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a car and a lorry had been involved in a collision.

"On arrival, crews found a woman in a critical condition and provided advanced life support before conveying her via land to Royal Stoke University Hospital with air ambulance medics travelling on board to continue treatment en route.

A second patient, a woman, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and conveyed to the same hospital via land ambulance."

Drivers are being warned to avoid the crash scene as an investigation continues. A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Officers have closed the A500 northbound slip road at Audley and Alsager while we attend a serious RTC. Drivers should take alternative routes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding."

A live map from Google is showing queues on Alsager Road to the Mill End Lane junction. Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: "Slip roads closed due to accident on A500 D Road Northbound at Alsager Road (Audley Turn Off). Traffic is coping well."
