Volvo rolls out tougher FL 4×4 for off-road work

Volvo has beefed up its medium-duty range with an upgraded FL 4x4, designed for drivers who need a truck that can handle rough ground and demanding jobs.

The FL has always been known as a compact and agile truck, but this new 4x4 version is built for situations where extra off-road performance is essential.

"We can see a clear trend towards a higher demand for this type of truck from our customers," said Jan Hjelmgren, head of product management at Volvo Trucks. "This compact, agile and easy-to-manoeuvre 4x4 truck will enable access to remote areas in rough conditions - this is a workhorse built with a clear purpose."

The upgraded FL 4x4 gets new axles, axle ratios and all-wheel drive transmission, plus single tires, plenty of ground clearance and a reinforced exterior. It's aimed at sectors like construction, rescue, firefighting, utilities and even defence.

Buyers can choose between a day cab for two or a crew cab for six. Options include a winch, bullbar, headlight guards and extra gearbox protection for extreme terrain.

Power comes from Volvo's 8-litre diesel, with orders open now and production starting November 2025.
