Traffic and bus services in Nottingham are being diverted after 50 litres (11 gallons) of diesel spilt on to a major city centre road.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) said a lorry crash caused the spillage in Upper Parliament Street shortly before 15:00 BST on Tuesday.

The street remains cordoned off to traffic, but pavements are open to pedestrians as firefighters attend.

Nottingham City Transport[1] and Trent Barton[2] buses have diversions in place.

In a statement, NFRS said: "We received a report a HGV had been in collision with road furniture and this caused a diesel fuel spill of about 50 litres (11 gallons) on to Upper Parliament Street."

Firefighters from London Road and Stockhill stations are making the scene safe and preventing the fuel entering the water system.

Part of the same road was closed for a month earlier this year after part of a sewer collapsed underneath.
