Two lorry crash on A1 in Gateshead sees injured person taken to hospital

A crash on the A1 northbound[1] in Gateshead[2] which involved two lorries between the Metrocentre[3] and Dunston[4] has seen an injured person be taken to hospital. The three-vehicle crash took place just before 6am on Tuesday, and caused major queues of traffic on the road.

The collision occurred between junction 70 Park Terrace, the turn off for Whickham, and junction 71 for Hollinside Road. The North East Ambulance Service[5] has confirmed that one person was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital[6], with no serious injuries being reported.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a three vehicle road traffic incident on the A1 between Dunston and Metrocentre at 5.57 this morning.

"We dispatched one vehicle from our Hazardous Area Response Team and a double crewed ambulance.

One patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital."

Northumbria Police[8] has confirmed that officers responded to a collision on the A1 northbound close to the Dunston and Whickham turn off, at about 6am.

The force has also shared that no serious injuries have been reported and that the road has since reopened.
