Roewe M7 hybrid EV offers 1,274-mile range with 137 kW motor

Chinese automaker SAIC is bringing a new highlight to its Roewe lineup with the launch of the M7 plug-in hybrid, the first production model designed by Josef Kaban, the former Rolls-Royce design chief. The M7 offers an impressive 1,274 miles of CLTC-rated range, along with 99 miles of pure electric driving, positioning it as one of the longest-range PHEVs on the market. Power comes from SAIC's fifth-generation DMH hybrid system, which pairs a 1.5-liter engine with a front-mounted electric motor and a 19.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.
A dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) optimizes efficiency, while the standard 14.5-gallon fuel tank ensures extended travel without frequent refueling.
Balance of power and fuel economy
Under the hood, the Roewe M7 PHEV blends efficiency with solid performance. Its 1.5-liter engine produces 110 horsepower and 100 lb-ft of torque, operating at a maximum thermal efficiency of 43 percent. The electric motor adds 184 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque, giving the plug-in hybrid strong responsiveness.
The M7 reaches a top speed of 115 mph and accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds. Fuel economy is equally impressive, with a CLTC-rated consumption of about 81 mpg, allowing the M7 to deliver both extended driving range and competitive performance. When compared to other plug-in hybrid sedans in its class, the Roewe M7 PHEV stands out with its electric-only capability.
Geely's Galaxy[1] A7 offers 93 miles of CLTC pure electric range, while both the Changan Nevo A05 and Chery Fulwin A8 reach about 90 miles. BYD's Seal[2] 07 DM-i trails slightly behind with 78 miles. Against this backdrop, the M7's 99 miles of pure electric driving places it at the top of the segment, reinforcing SAIC's push to combine long-distance practicality with competitive all-electric performance.
Bringing the Pearl concept design to production
Evolving from the "Pearl" concept, the Roewe M7 DMH enters production with a bold new look.
The front is defined by a large grille framed with waterfall-style chrome accents, while split headlights on each side give the plug-in hybrid a distinctive and modern appearance.

The Roewe M7 features a clean, symmetrical interior layout with a D-shaped steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, and a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen. The system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 cockpit chip, while an AI voice assistant based on ByteDance's Doubao model provides hands-free control of key functions. The Roewe brand was established in 2006 after Chinese automaker SAIC acquired the rights to the British Rover brand from BMW.
Since then, Roewe has developed a range of sedans and SUVs with a focus on design and technology.
The Roewe M7, introduced as an updated version of the 2023 D7 sedan, builds on this legacy with modern styling, improved performance, and advanced hybrid technology.
