One person taken to hospital after M5 crash which left motorway blocked

Drivers on the M5 this morning[1] (Monday, September 8) faced major delays during rush hour after a crash left the motorway blocked. There were several miles of queuing traffic. Traffic had returned to normal by 10am.
Traffic monitoring site[2], Inrix, reported at 7.10am: "M5 southbound partially blocked, slow traffic due to accident from J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon) to J21 A370 (Weston-super-Mare)." Maps showed that, at its worst, traffic was queueing for around eight miles on the southbound carriageway between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare. One person was taken to hospital, according to the ambulance service.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: "We were called at 06:37hrs on Monday 08 September to a road traffic collision near Weston-Super-Mare. "We sent one double-crewed land ambulance, an operations officer, and the hazardous area response team to the scene. We and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Weston General Hospital."
