Mont Blanc road tunnel closes again but no prospect of modal shift to rail

The Mont Blanc road tunnel, a major passage for freight flows between France and Italy, will be closed from 1 September to 12 December 2025 for more renovation work. However, there is little or no prospect of modal shift to rail, as 90% of the trucks are expected to be re-routed to the Fr?jus alpine road tunnel which connects Modane in France, and Bardonecchia in Italy.
