Lorry driver ‘deliberately crashes through M6 Toll barrier to avoid £18.20 fee’

The driver tried to avoid paying the ?18.20 fee - but caused ?1,200 worth of damage in the process, according to police

A lorry driver is due to appear in court after 'crashing through a motorway toll barrier'.
The incident took place on the M6 Toll, which runs through Staffordshire[1] and Warwickshire[2].
Staffordshire Police[3] said the driver "deliberately crashed" through the toll barrier to avoid paying the charge.

In order to use the toll, large lorries which are categorised as class five have to pay a ?18.20 fee.
Following the incident, driver was arrested.
They subsequently caused ?1,200 worth of damage.
Officers said the driver was bailed and due to appear at court.
The incident was revealed on X (formerly Twitter) by the StaffsRCT account, which is part of Staffordshire Police[6].
The police account shared a photograph of a white Scania lorry with a blue trailer, parked behind a marked police car.
In a statement issued on X, StaffsRCT wrote: "Today we #arrested the driver of this HGV who deliberately crashed through the barriers at the @M6tollRoad in order to avoid the ?18.50 toll.
