Lorry driver ‘deliberately’ collides with M6toll barrier to avoid fare

The lorry driver is now due to appear in court following the extraordinary incident on Tuesday (2 September), which caused GBP1,200 of damage. The incident took place along the Staffordshire stretch of the 27-mile private motorway. The motorway's owner, Midland Expressway, said in order to use the entire toll road, HGVs categorised as class five have to pay an GBP18.20 fee.

Posting on social media, Staffordshire Police's road crime team said: "Today we arrested the driver of this HGV who deliberately crashed through the barriers at the @M6tollRoad in order to avoid the GBP18.50 toll.

"They have now been bailed to court for the GBP1,200 damage they caused."

The driver was arrested following the incident on Tuesday.
