A section of the Mersey Tunnel toll plaza has been cordoned off this afternoon after a lorry collided with a barrier. The incident, which happened at the Kingsway Tunnel in Wallasey, involved a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and resulted in damage to the toll plaza infrastructure[1].

Mersey Tunnels Police[2] and other emergency services have been in attendance and are working to repair any damage. Photographs taken at the scene show several barriers have been closed while Mersey Tunnels Police attempt to clear the scene.

A number of police cars are at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority[3] confirmed that there were no serious injuries reported as a result of the crash.

The spokesperson added: "Mersey Tunnels Police are currently dealing with a road traffic collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and the toll plaza infrastructure at the Kingsway Tunnel Toll Plaza, Wallasey[4].

"Other emergency services are responding in accordance with joint procedures.

At this time there are no serious injuries to report.

"There may be some disruption to traffic while damage to the toll plaza infrastructure is inspected and repairs are undertaken.

Drivers using the Kingsway Tunnel are advised to expect delays while the situation is cleared.
