Live: M5 traffic delays as final wave of summer holidaymakers set off

Delays continue on the M5 in the South West as the last wave of holidaymakers set off for the region. Though school has started for many already, some visitors may be enjoying a final weekend away before the summer ends for good, with reports indicating holiday traffic is causing delays on South West roads. Following an earlier incident which blocked the motorway northbound, now queues have formed in the southbound direction on the final weekend of the summer period.

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: "Long delays due to holiday traffic on M5 Southbound near J18 M49. Congestion to J20." It comes after congestion in Devon, where an 'obstruction' was reported blocking the motorway.

Queues formed at junction 31, with delays extending to Exeter services. Traffic monitor Inrix reports: "M5 Northbound partially blocked, queueing traffic due to obstruction on the road from J31 A38 (Okehampton turn off) to J30 A376 Sidmouth Road (Exeter / Service Areas)."
