Emergency work to repair bridge damaged by lorry begins
Hunton Bridge Hill is closed as Network Rail carry out repair work, which is expected to last until Wednesday morning (September 3). The work began on Saturday night (August 30), which - according to councillor Chris Whately-Smith - meant their was no access to Evergreen Football Club in Abbots Langley on Sunday morning. Repairs are taking place almost a month on from a lorry becoming stuck in the road[1] beneath the railway line between Watford Junction and Kings Langley on August 4. At the time Herts Police confirmed they were called to reports that the heavy goods vehicle (HGV) had hit the bridge at around 3.55pm. The road closure that was in place at the time. The Harlequin: changes round-up this summer at Watford's shopping centre[3] A picture from the scene appeared to show that the lorry had been driven part-way under the low railway bridge but was too high and hit the top, becoming wedged in, rather than "crashing" into the side of the bridge. Traffic website One Network says that delays are "likely" while the road is shut.
While a permit is in place until Wednesday, this is merely a guide as emergency works could be shortened or extended depending on progress.
