Dacia unveils hybrid 4×4 Duster and Bigster with rear electric motor and automatic gearbox

Dacia has announced a major upgrade to its line-up, with both the new Duster and Bigster launched in a hybrid 4x4 version, equipped with an automatic gearbox. The new powertrain, called Hybrid-G 150 4x4, combines hybrid technology, LPG bi-fuel and all-wheel drive, making it a first of its kind on the global market.

The system brings together a petrol engine on the front axle and an electric motor on the rear axle, providing instant traction and improved efficiency. The automatic dual-clutch gearbox with steering-wheel paddles is another debut for Dacia, while the rear motor allows the cars to operate in electric mode for much of city driving.

Thanks to its bi-fuel technology, the new version takes advantage of lower LPG prices, reducing running costs by up to 30 percent and cutting emissions compared with current models.

With separate tanks for petrol and LPG, the Duster can travel up to 1,500 kilometres without refuelling. Six driving modes are available, covering everything from everyday urban use to snow, mud or steep descents, ensuring both Duster and Bigster maintain their off-road credentials while becoming more versatile and economical.

The carmaker is also refreshing the rest of the Duster range, with updated hybrid and mild-hybrid engines, as well as a more powerful LPG version. Inside, the SUV gains new upholstery, lumbar adjustment for the driver's seat, and additional features such as adaptive cruise control.

Dacia remains Romania's largest company by revenue and its biggest exporter. In 2024, the brand produced over 300,000 vehicles and sold 676,340 passenger and commercial units, serving markets across Europe and beyond.

The company is targeting an electrified sales mix of 65% by the end of 2025, buoyed by its low-cost EV strategy, a broader product expansion that includes electric versions of the Sandero and Duster by 2027, and cost-effective battery tech innovation at the Renault Group level.

The new Hybrid-G 150 4x4 will be available on both Duster and Bigster by the end of the year.
