Collett & Sons has been awarded Team of the Year at the prestigious Motor Transport Awards 2025, recognising the company's outstanding achievement in delivering one of the UK's most complex heavy transport and installation projects. The award-winning project centred on the successful delivery of a 234 Tonne stator and the transportation and installation of a 198 Tonne transformer to the Gretna Grid Stability Facility in Scotland. "This award is a testament to the expertise, dedication, and teamwork of everyone at Collett," said Sam Collett, Director. "From meticulous planning through to final delivery, our team's resilience and collaborative approach ensured this complex project was completed safely and successfully.
We are proud that their hard work has been recognised at such a prestigious industry event." The project was executed in two phases. First, Collett transported the 234Te stator using its 24-axle, 350Te Scheuerle girder bridge trailer from Heysham Port to a transhipment point four miles from the facility.
Due to restricted access and bridge structures, the stator was then transhipped onto a 16-axle Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT). Later in the year, Collett managed the second phase: transporting and installing the 198Te transformer. Using the same method, the transformer was received at Heysham Port, transported via the girder bridge trailer and transhipped onto SPMT.
Upon arrival at Gretna, Collett's Heavy Lift Team precisely installed the transformer onto its concrete foundation. This award highlights Collett's ongoing commitment to delivering safe, innovative and reliable heavy transport and lifting solutions across the UK. The Motor Transport Awards are widely recognised across the road transport industry, highlighting achievement, innovation and best practice.
Winning the Team of the Year award acknowledges not only the successful delivery of complex projects but also the teamwork and expertise that underpin them.
