A50 traffic returns to normal after lorry and van crash near Derby

Traffic has returned to normal on a busy main road[1] near Derby[2] after a crash involving a lorry and a van blocked the road for more than four hours. Motorists were warned of "long delays" in the area after the A50 eastbound[3] became blocked at around 10.30am on Monday (September 15). A spokesperson for the traffic monitoring service, Inrix, said: "The A50 Eastbound is blocked at junction 3 ( Swadlincote[4] / Melbourne[5] ) following an accident.

This is causing long delays and was reported to us at 11.18am." Traffic maps provided by Google showed a three-mile queue building from junction 3, extending towards Toyota Island. Derbyshire police confirmed that the incident was caused by a crash involving a van and a lorry.
