A470 back open after lorry overturns under railway bridge

Dyfed Powys Police first reported that the A470 had shut near Caersws just after 9am, with the incident occurring near the railway bridge at Pontdolgoch[1]. Images posted online showed a lorry tipped onto two wheels, leaning on the wall under the bridge. Traffic Wales said it expected the road to be closed for some time.

It reported that the road was back open at 2.36pm.

"Police are in attendance at a road traffic collision which occurred at about 8.10am, this morning, September 10," Dyfed Powys Police said. "A lorry has collided with a bridge on the A470 at Pontdolgoch near Caersws[4]. "The road is currently closed and road users are advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes."

Transport for Wales[5] said trains travelling through Caersws on the Cambrian line had been currently cancelled following the incident.

A spokesperson for Transport for Wales said: "Due to a road vehicle colliding with a bridge at Caersws the line is blocked.

"Train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed.

Disruption is expected until 11am."
