Two taken to hospital after M2 motorway crash

Two people have been taken to hospital after a motorway crash that brought traffic to a standstill across Belfast.

The emergency services were called to the collision on the M2 northbound carriageway[1] just before 11.10am on Saturday, August 16, following reports of a two-vehicle collision.

Following the incident two people were taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital[2] for treatment to their injuries.

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service[5] spokesperson said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 11:10 on Saturday 16 August following reports of a Road Traffic Incident, involving two vehicles, on M2.

"NIAS despatched an Emergency Crew and two ambulance officers red to the incident. The HEMS team was also tasked to attend by response car. NIAS personnel were assisted at the incident by an Independent Ambulance Crew.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, two patients were taken to RVH."

All lanes of the carriageway were closed for a period of time, before one lane opened just before 1pm.

A PSNI[6] spokesperson said: "One lane country bound has reopened following a road traffic collision at the M2 Northbound this morning, Saturday 16 th August.

The outer lanes remain closed as police remain at the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area."
