A crash in Sunderland[1] saw a lorry collide with overhead electricity cables, and the road has been partially closed for repairs to take place. Northumbria Police[2] officers were called to South Burn Terrace, in the New Herrington area of Houghton-le-Spring[3], just before 11.30am on Thursday.
Nobody was found to be injured, and the vehicle has now been recovered, with the cables now being repaired. Officers are also asking motorists to find alternative routes where possible.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 11.30am today (Thursday), we received a report of a collision on South Burn Terrace, in the New Herrington area of Houghton-le-Spring.

"It was reported that a vehicle had collided with overhead electricity cables. Officers attended the scene and no-one was found to have been injured.
"A section of the road remains closed to allow for recovery of the vehicle involved and the cables to be repaired and made safe.
Motorists should use alternative routes where possible."

The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service was made aware of the incident, but a spokesperson has informed us that firefighters did not attend the scene. For the latest on the roads and on public transport across the North East, visit our dedicated traffic and travel live blog here.[4][5]
