Prestatyn man who said his ‘brakes failed’ appears in court

Nathan Owen, 32, of The Grove, is charged with dangerous driving, causing a public nuisance, and two counts of fraud by false representation. Owen appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Wednesday (August 13) for his first hearing. His case[1] was sent to Liverpool Crown Court, where a plea and trial preparation hearing will take place on Wednesday, September 10.

He was granted unconditional bail until then. On March 6, 2024, Merseyside Police was called to help stop a black Jaguar I-PACE car safely on the eastbound carriageway of the M62. This followed the driver of the vehicle[2] - Owen - reporting to 999 that his vehicle was out of control and he could not brake while travelling on the M58/M57 and M62 motorways.

The incident led to two lanes being shut on the motorway as Owen was escorted by police vehicles until his electric car battery ran out.
