Palletways UK plays integral role in Hungary’s 1m pallet milestone

Palletways Hungary has marked a major milestone by successfully transporting over one million pallets - solidifying its position as the country's leading palletised freight network. While the achievement is a significant achievement for the Hungarian team, it's also a powerful indicator of the strength, efficiency and connectivity of the wider Palletways network - including the integral role played by Palletways UK. Since its launch, Palletways Hungary has maintained full national coverage with no service interruptions, supported by a cohesive network of 13 members.

Its Biatorbagy-based hub has remained highly efficient under pressure, including managing overnight volume surges of up to 40% while achieving an on-time performance rate of 98.2%. This level of performance demonstrates how regional hubs across Europe and the UK are operating in lockstep to support growing cross-border volumes and deliver consistently high service standards. Many of the pallets processed through Hungary have originated from, or are destined for, partners in other countries, particularly Germany, Italy and France.

These cross-border shipments are made possible via the seamless collaboration between Palletways' European networks which underscores the strength its hub-and-spoke model. Peter Kovacs, managing director for Palletways Hungary, said: "Our success is attributed to the group model, which combines local expertise with the strength of a pan-European operation. Ongoing training and knowledge-sharing with other Palletways members across the UK and Europe have been instrumental in building long-term operational excellence."

Rob Gittins, managing director for Palletways UK, added: "This is a fantastic achievement by our colleagues in Hungary and testament to the strength of the Palletways network. For our members and customers here in the UK, it reinforces the value of being part of a truly pan-European operation. Every milestone like this means greater reliability, reach, and opportunity for the businesses we support across borders."

As demand for palletised freight continues to grow in Central and Eastern Europe, the milestone signals commercial opportunities for UK businesses looking to export to Hungary or expand eastward. Inbound volumes into Hungary are on the rise, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, construction, and e-commerce, many of which are strong export categories for UK members.

Luis Zubialde, CEO of Palletways Group, added: "This is a fantastic achievement for our team in Hungary, but it's also a milestone moment for the Group. Every pallet moved relies on the coordinated performance of our hubs and members across Europe. It shows our network is working exactly as intended - local expertise supported by international strength.

"With numerous strategically located hubs across Europe and the UK, we're demonstrating the value of a connected, reliable infrastructure that allows businesses of all sizes to move goods efficiently across borders. As volumes and service demands increase, milestones like Hungary's one-millionth pallet affirm the resilience and relevance of our Group model - and the shared success of every member within it." Founded in the UK in 1994, the Palletways Group began developing its pan-European network in 2002.

Today, it operates in 25 countries and currently works with more than 450 depots and over 23 hubs.
