M8 ‘standstill’ traffic chaos as crash near Lanarkshire town leaves huge queues

There are delays on the M8 this afternoon following an incident which is causing chaos for motorists who are stuck in huge queues. The busy motorway remains closed, as of 1.30pm on Thursday (August 28), between J6 (Newhouse) and J5 (Shotts). At Newhouse, the eastbound[1] stretch of the motorway is closed while a westbound closure is in place at Shotts.
Traffic is said to be "at a standstill" while emergency services deal with the incident. Police Scotland confirmed a man has been found injured on the motorway. A spokesperson for the force said: "The M8 is closed in both directions between J5 and J6 following a report of a man found injured around 12.50pm on Thursday, 28 August.
"Emergency services are in attendance. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. "Motorists are advised to please avoid the area."
Traffic Scotland wrote: "The M8 is closed between J6 Newhouse to J5 Shotts due to a collision. "Drivers are advised to use an alternative route at this time and expect delays." A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 12.47 to attend an incident on the M8, near to junction 6.
