M6 traffic diversion routes as motorway shut due to ‘police incident’ in Lancashire

The motorway is closed to traffic in both directions near Bamber Bridge

Diversion routes are in place on the M6 tonight (Monday, August 4 into Tuesday August 5) due to an ongoing 'police incident' that has closed the motorway.
The carriageway[1] is shut to traffic[2] in both directions near Bamber Bridge in Lancashire[3], with the closure in place between Junction 29 and Junction 30.
The motorway was first reported to be shut shortly after 11.30pm on Monday and police remain in attendance.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M6 is closed in both directions between J29 (M65) and J30 Bamber Bridge Interchange (M61) for a police led incident.
"Lancashire Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management."

M6 traffic diversion routes:
National Highways has the following diversion routes in place as a result of the closure.
Motorists are being advised to factor extra time into their journeys.
Road users travelling south are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbols on road signs: Exit M6 SB at Jct 31. At M6 Jct 31/A59 Rbt, take third exit and follow A59 EB for 3.4km. At A59/A6 Jct, turn left and follow A6 SB for 7.4km.
At A6/M65 Jct 1a Rbt, take first exit and follow M65 EB for 0.7km.
Exit M65 EB at Jct 1. At M65 Jct 1/M6 Jct 29 Rbt, take third exit and rejoin M6 SB.

At M65 Jct 1a/A6 Rbt, take first exit and follow A6 NB London Way for 7.4 km.
