M6 live updates as ‘multi-vehicle’ crash causes traffic chaos near Stoke-on-Trent

Motorists are being warned of delays on the M6[1] in Staffordshire following a multi-vehicle crash. The collision has happened on the northbound side of the motorway near junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent. It is not known at this stage how many vehicles are involved or whether there are any serious injuries.

The smash was first reported shortly before 1pm today (August 31). There is around 3.5 miles of congestion with delays of 30 minutes. Traffic monitoring site Inrix says: "Queueing traffic due to accident, now on the hard shoulder on M6 Northbound from J15 A500 D Road (Stoke-On-Trent) to J16 A500 (Stoke-On-Trent/Crewe).

Traffic has now been released following a brief hold and the accident has now been moved over onto the hard shoulder."
