Lorry spills mud on M6 causing 12-mile rush hour tailback

The spill happened on the northbound carriageway in the early afternoon on Thursday, August 21, and is affecting the section between junction 19, for the A556 and Knutsford, and junction 20, M56 Lymm Interchange. Lanes one and two of three are currently closed, along with the northbound slip road at junction 20 to assist with the recovery of the spilled load. National Highway: Northwest is warning of up to 90-minute delays on expected journey times alongside 12 miles of congestion.

A spokesman for Inrix Traffic Monitoring said: Long delays and two lanes closed due to shed load on M6 northbound from junction 19, A556 (Knutsford) to junction 20 M56 (Lymm Interchange). "Lanes one and two (of three) are closed. "Northbound junction 20 slip road also closed to assist with shed load recovery.

"Specialist cleaning equipment is now at the scene to clear the spillage."
