Lorry crash shuts key stretch of M20

Closure remains as crews clear debris and oil spill

Crews from National Highways remain at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the M20 to carry out clean-up works and inspections. The collision involved a car and a lorry on the London-bound carriageway between J9 and J8. Police have confirmed that there were no injuries reported.

However, the collision did result in a large amount of debris on the carriageway, as well as an oil spill. The central reservation barrier also sustained damage. Repairs are therefore necessary on the motorway and there is not yet an estimate on when the London-bound carriageway will re-open.

A spokesperson for National Highways said in a recent update: "The M20 in Kent is closed westbound between J9 (Ashford) and J8 (Maidstone) due to a multi-vehicle collision. Emergency services are on scene. "National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management.

There is a large amount of debris across the carriageway and damage to the central reservation barrier.

National Highways contractors will be attending to assist with clear-up works and repairs."
