Long delays on M6 with two lanes shut after ‘van overturns’

An accident caused long delays on the M6 in Cheshire this afternoon (August 11) after a lorry collided with the central reservation. Cheshire Police say they were called to the scene between Junction 21 and Junction 21A of the M6 near Warrington at 1:40pm following reports of a collision between vehicles. "A white van overturned and collided with a car towing a trailer," they confirmed to the M.E.N. "The towbar of the car travelled across the central reservation."
Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE[1] Two lanes of the northbound and one lane of the southbound carriageway were closed for a number of hours while National Highways worked to recover the vehicles, leading to as many as eight miles of congestion south of the accident site. Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended, although Cheshire Police confirmed that there were no serious injuries sustained in the incident.
All four lanes of the northbound carriageway were reopened just before 4pm with traffic beginning to clear.
