Live M6 traffic updates as motorway closed in Lancashire due to ‘police incident’

The M6 motorway is shut in both directions in Lancashire tonight due to an ongoing 'police incident' tonight (Monday, August 4 into Tuesday, August 5). Both the northbound and southbound carriageways are closed to traffic between Junction 29 and Junction 30 near Bamber Bridge.[1][2][3] The closure was first reported at around 11.40pm on Monday and diversion routes are now in place.[4]

A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M6 is closed in both directions between J29 (M65) and J30 Bamber Bridge Interchange (M61) for a police led incident. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management." Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "M6 in both directions closed due to police incident from J30 M61 to J29 M65 J1 (Lostock Hall)." No further information has been released on the nature of the incident at this stage.
